Trayvon Martin was a 17-year old boy who was senselessly gunned down by a man by the name of George Zimmerman in February. Trayvon was said to be walking to his father’s home from a convenience store when Zimmerman phoned 911 and followed Martin for what he called “suspicious behavior.” The two were believed to have gotten into some kind of verbal altercation, which resulted in Zimmerman fatally shooting Trayvon, despite the fact that he was unarmed. After a claim of self defense, Zimmerman was not arrested and remains a free man to this very day. The lack of justice for Martin’s family has sparked nationwide outrage, and people are doing their part in making sure Trayvon’s story is heard.
Earlier today, the Miami Heat made headlines when they took a team photo wearing hoodies, in reference to the hooded sweatshirt Trayvon wore on the night of the incident. Taking their support a step further, team leaders LeBron James and Dwyane Wade wrote messages of support on their respective signature sneakers, the Nike LeBron 9 and Jordan Wade Flight PO.
Both players’ left shoes read “R.I.P. Trayvon Martin,” while Wade’s right also features the message “We Want Justice.”
The Heat walked away with an 88-73 win over the Detroit Pistons, but the bigger victory was helping spread awareness about something they believe in.

After debuting earlier this week, it didn’t take long for this grey-based colorway of the Nike LeBron 9 Elite to find the top of many sneakerhead wish lists. Already the recipient of lofty “South Beach” and “McFly” nicknames, the shoe is accented by familiar green and pink hues mostly associated with last season’s game-changing “South Beach” LeBron8. Performance features include breathable mesh panels along the sides, vamp and toebox, as well as a true winged carbon fiber overlay wrapped around the base. An extra set of pink laces offer an alternative look above, while what appears to be another glowing outsole wraps things up below.
Whatever you’re calling this colorway, look for these to release on Saturday, June 2 at $250.

Dear Nike,
Okay, let’s just say it right away. The Air Max 96 should be retroed. Yes, the Air Max 95 is a classic and iconic shoe, but Nike, we’ve seen more than enough colorways, materials, no-sews, and whatever else you have designed it with. Meanwhile, we have the Air Max 96, like the one appearing in this awesome ad featuring Michael Johnson, which has never seen a single retro. That’s now 16 years and counting without a return of one of your greatest Air Max runners ever! We don’t mean to be rude or ungrateful, we appreciate all the retros that you do for us…but please, if you could give the Air Max 95 a rest for just one season, and bring back some Air Max 96′s, we would all appreciate it immensely. We’d even settle for a few less colorways of the Air Max 90 if you could give us some 96′s.
Sincerely,

In sadly predictable fashion, Nike Sportswear’s celebratory “Galaxy” Air Foamposite One release has turned into a chaotic and violent affair. The biggest disturbance currently being reported took place at Orlando’s Florida Mall, where police dressed in riot gear were called to the scene in an effort to control the raucous crowd.
Witnesses say the scene erupted at approximately 9:30 p.m. as hundreds of potential customers occupied the mall’s parking lot prior to the midnight launch. The crowd was asked to wait across the street when the mall closed at 9:00 p.m., but an individual that made a made dash toward Foot Locker and inspired a following of hundreds.
“I saw hundreds of people running toward me. I thought I was going to get trampled,” customer Amanda Charles told the Orlando Sentinel.
More than 100 law enforcement officers were called onto the scene, including deputies on horseback, motorcycles and in patrol cars. Even helicopters with spotlights were spotted hovering above. Some reports suggest that shields and pepper spray were used to push the crowd back. When the unruly group continued to cause problems for authorities on the scene, officers and mall officially announced a shut down of the release at 10:30 p.m. and directed individuals to leave empty-handed.
As of now, we’re not aware of what plans the Florida Mall may have for a re-scheduled release. We’ll be sure to update this post with more “Galaxy” fallout as new information becomes available.

Continuing yet another monster year for the timeless Foamposite One, Nike Sportswear is gearing up to release this much anticipated “Electrolime” colorway next month.
Thought by many to be inspired by the team that originally drafted Penny, the Golden State Warriors, The Foamposite One silhouette is covered in a vibrant “Electrolime” shade of yellow. Black builds the rest of the look, taking care of the eyelets, tongue and liner. A translucent outsole sits below, combining with a black herringbone pattern on the outsole.
The “Electrolime” Nike Air Foamposite One is scheduled to release March 17th at select Nike Sportswear retailers.

While in Memphis last week to catch up with Penny Hardaway, naturally I was curious about what he’d been up to since we last talked in Las Vegas. I figured a combination of golf, Grizzlies games and trips to Miami to see his son were taking up his time.
“I’m actually just coaching middle school basketball,” Penny beamed. “I’ve been coaching for like three months, and it’s been great. It’s my old neighborhood and my old middle school, and I inherited an incredible team too.”
Sure enough, the retired NBA All-Star is coaching and mentoring students just around the corner from where he grew up at Lester Middle School in Memphis. Hardaway made sure to hook up his former school with custom uniforms featuring his “1 Cent” logo, and he even donated sneakers for all of the players. “Our colors are black and yellow, and I actually ordered the Chris Bosh Max Hyperdunks for my team,” he said. “I got seven pairs from Eastbay and six from NikeStore. They’re black with yellow accents and come with red laces, so we replaced those with yellow shoe strings.”
Much like several points during his own basketball career, the team’s season and journey to the Tennessee state championship game this past Friday night has been all about comebacks. Originally a volunteer with the team, Hardaway stepped up and took over after the school’s head coach, Desmond Merriwether, continued to battle with cancer. At one point, Coach Merriwether, his family and friends were even told he had just 24 hours to live. He’s continued to fight through after missing parts of the 2010-2011 season, and he’s been on hand all season long to support his Lions players.
After beating teams by twenty and thirty points for most of the season, the Lester Lions needed a huge comeback to win the 2012 Small Schools Tennessee State Championship. Down 47-32 to Fayette East at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the comeback was on after Hardaway yelled out, “Give me all you got!” A barrage of three-pointers from Coach Merriwether’s son Nick and some key rebounds and inside presense from bigs Reggie Green and Robert Washington carried the Lions to a 58-55 win. Washington finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Green, named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, led all scorers with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Back in 1992 Nike created a special pair of Nike Air Jordan VI footwear for theDark Knight as the unique design seemed to match Batman’s suit. Of course, theNike Air Jordan VI Batman never released, though it is one of the coolest artifacts in Nike’s history. PH23Customs recently completed a custom pair of Nike Air Jordan VI s with the Dark Knight in mind using the Nike Air Jordan VI Oreo as the base, PH23 blacked out the white leather upper and astutely colored a few sections with a dark navy blue, like the Jumpman on the tongue, the midsole, and the stripe on the spoiler on the heel.
